Introducing Cargolux
In 1970, Cargolux Airlines International S.A. started operations from its newly established home base at Luxembourg airport with a handful of Canadair CL-44 freighters. 50 years later, Cargolux is Europe’s biggest all-cargo airline with a fleet of modern Boeing 747-8 and 747-400 freighters. Cargolux is a launch customer for the technologically advanced 747-8F that joined the fleet in late 2011 and is the world’s first operator of this aircraft type. Already in 1993, Cargolux had shown its pioneering spirit when it took delivery of the world’s first 747-400 freighter.
As an undisputed leader in air cargo, Cargolux offers an extensive product range, covering everything from every-day cargo to shipments that require attention to detail, special treatment and expert handling. Backed by 50 years of experience, the highly specialized Cargolux teams can cater to the most demanding requirements customers may have.
Cargolux’s high-quality scheduled and charter air freight services across the globe use an all-747 freighter fleet and a solid network of trucking contractors to move valuable and time-sensitive commodities on its network, covering more than 90 destinations. The Boeing 747 was designed as a freighter from the get-go. Flexibility in loading and operational efficiency are its key components. With a large side-cargo door and a unique nose door, Cargolux’s freighters can be loaded quickly and easily and accommodate heavy, outsized loads as well as temperature-sensitive freight that requires special care and sensitive treatment.
Cargolux also offers third-party maintenance services at its modern two-bay maintenance hangar in Luxembourg. The company is specialized in 747 line and hangar maintenance up to and including C Checks.
Over the years, innovative concepts and the constant drive for quality have earned Cargolux a number of awards, including the ‘Best All Cargo Airline’ award that the company received for four consecutive years as chosen by the readers of the trade magazine Air Cargo News, in recognition of its exemplary role as a first class provider of air cargo services to the industry.
The company has more than 85 offices in over 50 countries. Its shareholders are Luxair (35.10%), HNCA (35.00%), BCEE (10.90%) SNCI (10.67%) and the Luxembourg State (8.32%).
Cargolux is a member of the association of Airlines for Europe (A4E) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
